Dear colleagues,

As one of the founding countries of the African Union, Cameroon is moving steps for offshore oil and gas exploration since these years, and is aiming to make Cameroon an emerging country with a leading economy in Africa by 2035. According to the report in 2019, crude petroleum was both Cameroon’s biggest export ($1.89 billion) and import ($347 million).

On Mar. 25th, 2023, Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon have signed a bilateral cooperation agreement to jointly develop and monetize oil and gas projects on the border between the two countries (see Figure 1 below for Yoyo field in Cameroon and Yolanda field in Equatorial Guinea), which is following the agreement of two countries since 2017.

There is also an Etinde offshore block will going to FID soon. The Operator is Perenco with 37.5% shares, and investors are including Bowleven (25% shares), Lukoil (37.5% shares). The latest news of Etinde project is on June 8, 2022, which said Perenco’s subsidiary has inked a deal with New Age (African Global Energy) Limited to buy its stake and take over the operatorship of a field offshore Cameroon, which is expected to boost the development of African gas exports to Europe amid the widespread energy security concerns due to the current geopolitical crisis.

What are the next steps for Yoyo field in Cameroon and Yolanda field in Equatorial Guinea? Will Etinde offshore block‘s FID process finished by 2023? Are there any incentive policies to accelerate the offshore projects exploration in Cameroon?

About the West Africa Offshore Upstream Conference 2023 (click here for official website)

In the post-pandemic era, the rising oil prices, the discoveries of significant offshore oil and gas fields of West Africa region, and aims of accelerating monetization of regional hydrocarbon by 2050 have driven demand for active offshore upstream exploration in West Africa. Recently, Nigeria and Sierra Leone held new round of offshore bidding separately, Ghana is planning for new deep offshore bidding now. During 2019 to 2022, the West African countries such as Angola, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Equatorial Guinea, Congo, Liberia, Gambia, either launched bidding round or opened for direct negotiation for untapped blocks. Meanwhile, projects in several West African countries are heading for FID in 2023. What is status of different projects in West Africa countries? What challenges and concerns of the government, NOCs and IOCs and how could involve in the projects? The West Africa Offshore Upstream Conference 2023 (December 5-6th, Abuja, Nigeria) is committed to gathering the most related players for the hottest topics and projects, and to building a comprehensive platform for information sharing, highly-level communication, and best practices showcasing.
