Dear colleagues,
After the updates of extension for PSC with Eni for its OML 125, Chevron for its OML 128 and OML 132, TotalEnergies for its OML 130 and 138 and ExxonMobil for its OML 133, Nigeria is actively pushing forward of offshore upstream sector, although there is a situation that some of western oil firms are retreating from Nigeria.
Here are 3 offshore projects in Nigeria that in exploration process and with a lot of opportunities:
Bonga North Block: Oil Mining Lease (OML) 118
With latest updates on April, 2023, the project is currently in feasibility stage and is expected to start commercial production in 2025. Final investment decision (FID) of the project will be approved in 2023. The operator is Shell with 55 percent shares, and investors are TotalEnergies (13%), Exxon Mobil (20%), Eni (13%).
Preowei
On April 27, 2023, Preowei project is currently in approval stage and is expected to start commercial production in 2026. Final investment decision (FID) of the project will be approved in 2023. Actually, the FID of Preowei was fixed for fourth quarter of 2020, but because of COVID-19 constraints, concerns around new fiscal provisions in Nigeria’s oil sector, and collapse of oil prices at the time, the projects was stalled. The operator is TotalEnergies (24%), and investors are China National Petroleum Corporation (45%), South Atlantic Petroleum (SAPETRO) (15%), Africa Oil Corp (8%), BTG Pactual (8%).
Bonga Southwest / Aparo (BSWA, OMLs 118/ 132/ 140)
The project is going to operation soon. While based on latest information on this February, the tendering process for FPSO will be extent to 2024. It will be the first major deepwater project in Nigeria since Egina. Shell is the operator.
